Could you do an interview on the telly?

Fired up with anticipation on how my interview about unwittingly interviewing a serial killer in my former life will turn out on ITV Wales tonight, l wanted to share a few tips and techniques that we teach our clients.
- Always remember that on TV perception is the reality (“Are you going to believe what you see or what I’m telling you?” Groucho Marx)
- On TV you create lasting impressions – no matter what you say, if your eyes are all over the place, people will remember you as a shifty looking character
Interview Tips
DO
- Ask the interviewer what angle they are looking for
- Talk to – and maintain eye contact with – the interviewer
- Practice your soundbites and key messages
- Check your hair, tie, jacket before the interview
- If pre-recorded, stop the interview and start again if you’re not happy with response
DON’T
- Smile if it’s a serious story – it can be misunderstood
- Assume to much knowledge on part of the interviewer
- Volunteer information that’s not relevant
- Get rattled
- Fidget
Tap into the wealth of opportunities to raise your company’s profile on regional and national TV as an expert or ‘thought leader’, give it loadswellie, and above all, enjoy the experience!
