MC occupies a specific and specialised branch of PR. Effectively, he is a publicist - pure and simple - and a good one at that. He gives journalists what they want and knows enough editors to place his clients where the money is.

Not having met the man, I don't know about his scruples, but I am sure he would find much of the PR industry navel gazing quite funny. Most of us probably secretly envy his high-fee, high-profile media act. Perhaps there's something we could learn from his style.

You and your readers might enjoy my two PR blogs on the same subject, which both provoked a condemnation of Max Clifford from CIPR President Kevin Taylor. The second post includes an interview with Max putting the case for the defence in response to Kevin's robust condemnation of Max on my blog.

I agree with a lot of your points. I have also posted an entry on my own blog with regards his methods of practice at http://wwwemmalong.blogspot.com

I question whether Max Clifford practises traditional 'PR' as we know it whether through theoretical studying or what we ourselves have put into practice or wonder whether it is simply good issues and crisis management?

Is Max Clifford really a good PRO or simply just a spin doctor?
